Matt is the founder and Managing Partner of MERC & CO. A passionate risk consultant focused on quality and innovation, he has 20 years of experience successfully partnering with clients to enhance their management of risk.

 

Across the primary disciplines of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), operational and third party risk management, and compliance, Matt has worked with a broad range of UK based and international clients in multiple sectors, with widely varying size and ownership profiles. 

 

The scope of his support is similarly broad and has ranged from leading delivery of multi-year ERM transformation programmes with major global organisations both on secondment and as an external consultant, development coaching of incumbent heads of risk and compliance, to bespoke advice in areas such as predictive risk analytics, integrated risk and compliance frameworks, and risk appetite articulation, where he is a recognised expert.

 

Previously Matt led the UK corporate risk advisory practice for over a decade at a major global professional services firm.

Following a successful decade at a major global professional services firm, Ross became a co-founding Partner of MERC & CO in 2019.

 

Recognised for his agility in working across a uniquely broad domain of expertise and industry sectors, Ross supports his clients to help them solve their most complex risk and compliance challenges. This support can range from leading strategically important transformation programmes to providing more tactical interventions and advice directed at acute areas requiring remediation and improvement.

 

Ross's experience of holding in-house roles as the interim risk and compliance lead for several large organisations has taught him the importance of offering clear, actionable and practical advice as an external consultant. Working across many different industries and geographies has also afforded Ross the opportunity to observe leading practices in a variety of fields, which his clients can also learn and benefit from.

 

Ross is also a chartered accountant and MERC & CO's CFO.

Gareth is a highly experienced management consultant who focuses on Risk & Compliance automation. 

 

With over 15 years dedicated to the Risk and Regulatory technologies market, he created and led a Big-4 Risk & Regulatory technologies practice, before serving as business leader for one of the largest risk technology providers in the market. He is now routinely consulted by vendors, analyst firms and private equity funds as they seek to better understand and capitalise upon this rapidly growing market.

 

His market knowledge and subject matter expertise is underpinned by extensive practitioner experience - Gareth has deep experience in both advisory and in-house risk management, compliance and audit roles.  This combination of practitioner, advisory and technology vendor experience provides Gareth with unique insights when advising clients on any risk and regulatory technology matter.

 

As someone passionate and dedicated to this space, Gareth is hands-on in his approach and able to provide early insights into new capabilities that give our clients a competitive edge.

Martin Caddick

Martin is a widely-recognised expert in Resilience, often interviewed by media such as the BBC, Channel 4, NBC and FT.com, as well as being a member of several standards authoring panels. 

He advises organisations on their policy and strategies for improving their resilience, helping them to develop their teams and capabilities, and to implement resilience programmes, combining thought-leadership with pragmatism to ensure that organisations deliver change that is both cost-effective and long-lasting.

Martin has previously developed and led market-leading and multiple award-winning Continuity and Resilience practices at PwC, Marsh, and Fujitsu.  A Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute, his industry experience includes:

 

  • Member of the authoring panel for BS65000 (Operational Resilience), and BCI representative on the ISO/TC 292 "Security and resilience" working group (responsible for ISO 22301)

  • Leading member of the BCI 20:20 group, and member of the interview panel for FBCI applicants

  • Member of the London First advisory board for Security and Resilience (2014-2017)

Marina is an experienced management consultant with expertise in procurement, risk and sustainability and international experience across public and private sectors. Marina has a strong track record in delivering projects in complex environments and with multiple stakeholders. Her approach is customer-focussed and outcome-driven, underpinned by a risk-based mindset and human-centric approach to problem solving. 

Having started her career in PwC, Marina has worked with multi-sector organisations to enhance their capabilities in preparation for major deals, performance improvement of commercial and procurement functions, as well providing framework and support to strengthen governance for capital investment and third-party expenditure. Her work included large scale transformation programmes, public sector infrastructure procurements as well as supply chain management in international development.

Marina is passionate about supporting and scaling solutions that can have a transformative impact on pressing social and environmental issues, supporting clients with developing tailored response strategies to address emerging changes.

David Webb

David has more than 40 years of experience across both the public and private sectors in over 35 countries. He is a Chemical Engineer who has worked in operations and projects for major international energy companies.  

David has helped governments and major corporations understand and manage enterprise, operational and project risk. His interest in risk began with Environmental, Health and Safety in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical industry. As a consultant David was at the forefront of developing Enterprise Risk Management in this sector. Most recently he was the Risk Management Executive at a sovereign investment fund in the Middle East.

 

David also pioneered risk analysis in the Rail industry. Techniques he introduced are now standard practice in this industry.

 

Other notable work includes; investigating the Bhopal disaster, the risk assessment and insurance arrangements for the London Olympic Games, and Head of Risk for the UK government “Gershon” efficiency programme. David has also led the implementation of ERM at a major international insurance company.
